ITINERARY:
1. Introduction: Meet your instructors and fellow attendees as we discover one of the most exciting intersections of language and culture: food. 2. Learn the History: Explore the ancestral origins and cultural heritage of arepas as we discuss popular regional varieties from Colombia and Venezuela. 3. Cooking Demonstration: Watch a step-by-step demonstration of how classic arepas con queso are prepared using simple, traditional ingredients. 4. Spanish Language Foundations: Learn a practical, step-by-step approach to building basic sentences in Spanish using essential verbs such as querer (to want), comer (to eat), and beber (to drink). 5. Expressing Likes, Dislikes, & Preferences: Practice talking about the food and drinks you like, dislike, or want, using expressions such as me gusta, no me gusta, and quiero. 6. Speaking Practice: Collaborate with peers to ask and answer questions about food and drink preferences while utilizing new vocabulary and conversational structures. 7. Arepa Tasting: Taste freshly prepared arepas and experience this Columbian and Venezuela culinary tradition firsthand. 8. Closing & Networking: Enjoy your arepas, practice your new Spanish skills, and learn about upcoming programs and cultural events at JPLI. |
