Application Procedure 

APPICATION DEADLINE
All of the dates mentioned on this website are based on Eastern Standard Time.

The application open September 25, 2025 will close at 23:59, October 31, 2025.
Accepted students must confirm their participation within 3 days after the screening results announcement.
Program fee payment deadline: October 31, 2025

ELIGIBILITY
For Short-Term Study:

• Age requirement: Must be between 13 yrs. and older

For Long-Term Study:

• Age requirement: Must be 17 years old or older.

Health Condition:

• Must be in excellent physical and mental health.

Personal Qualities:

• Must possess maturity, flexibility, and adaptability.
• Willingness to Participate: Must be willing to actively engage in Japanese society and/or with host families.

Language Requirement:
No prior knowledge of the Japanese language is necessary.

Recommendation Letters:
Must provide two recommendation letters from current school teachers and/or friends.

Interview Process: Candidates may be interviewed by the Programs' office to assess their qualifications.

FINALIZING PAYMENT
Once the application form is completed, students will receive an invoice, and the payment must be completed within 7 days. 

ORIENTATION 
Participants must attend all orientation activities related to their program, including pre-departure and registration information. Details about the date and location will be communicated through email.

HOUSING 
Short-term (summer or winter program): Accommodation in hotel and Airbnb resident house. 
Long-term (semester): Housing options range from accommodation in University/ School Dormitories to Hotels. Housing costs may be paid to JPLI (in the Program Fee), or directly to a partner school. Please refer to individual programs to find out more about what type of housing is offered.
