   Introductory German Language 
       (GER101,GER102,GER103,GER104) 

Course Description:
The introductory German language course consists of four sections, totaling 32 weeks. Each section is eight weeks long and meets once a week for two hours. This course aims to develop four essential language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a particular focus on communicative competence. Additionally, basic concepts of German culture will be introduced.

​Prerequisite: No 
Notes: This course is for students with little or no knowledge of German.
It is not appropriate for native/fluent speakers of German. More advanced students should see the program director at admissions office.

Learning Outcomes: 
​Upon completing this course, students will be able to:

• Understand and comprehend simple spoken statements, questions, conversations, and stories related to the topics covered in the course.
• ​Make and respond to simple statements and questions.
• Engage in basic face-to-face conversations using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation for various communication situations.
• Write short, informal notes and messages.
• Generate short paragraphs on familiar topics using vocabulary and structures at this level.
• Read and understand authentic materials and texts related to the themes of the course.
• Describe essential aspects of German culture in comparison to American culture.
• Respond to cultural subtleties using appropriate language and register.
• ​Students with an average score above 85 will receive a certificate.

Intermediate German Language 

(GER201,GER202, GER203, GER204

 Intermediate German is designed for learners who have attained a basic level of proficiency and now desire to advance to a more complex language level. This course is comprised of four sections, totaling 128 weeks, which is dependent on the proficiency levels of the students.
