          Introductory German Language 
                   ( GER101,GER102,GER103,GER104) 

Course Description:

Introductory German language course consist of 4 sections for total 32 weeks. Each section is 8 weeks, meet once a week for 2 hours,
This course develops the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with emphasis on communicative competence. Basic concepts of German culture are introduced.

​Request: No Prerequisite. 
Notes: This course is for students with little or no knowledge of German. It is not appropriate for native/fluent speakers of German.
for whom GER201 is recommended. More advanced students should see the program director at admissions office.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Derive essential information by listening to and comprehending simple oral statements, questions, conversations and narrations based on course-related themes.
  2. Make and respond to simple statements and questions.
  3. Engage in simple face-to-face conversation within the vocabulary, structure, and phonology appropriate to the communicative situations and functions at this level.
  4. Compose short, informal notes and messages.
  5. Write short paragraphs based on familiar topics using known vocabulary and structures at this level.
  6. Read and respond to authentic/realistic materials and texts within the context of course-related themes.
  7. Articulate the basic aspects of the German cultures in comparison to U.S. culture.
  8. React to cultural nuances by using appropriate register.
  9. Certificate available to students average score above 85.

An introduction course contains four sections of eight 2-hour classes.  It's designed for students who have no knowledge of the German language. A student who has the skills will be required to take a course placement test.

What you will learn? 
  • How to communicate in a variety of social situations, such as introducing yourself, talking about daily activities, writing as well as reading simple texts, such as an email, giving and receiving directions, asking about the weather, telling the time, and more
  • Basic grammatical structures such as articles, nouns, adjectives, the present and past tenses of regular and irregular verbs
