Introductory
101A, 101B,102,103,104
The Introductory Chinese program consists of six sections: 101A, 101B, 102, 103, and 104. It takes 48 weeks to complete the entire introductory level course.
Students in the introductory level will focus on pronunciation, writing structure to aid memorization, cultural understanding, speaking, and listening.
Upon completion of the entire introductory course, students will be able to engage in basic conversations, read and write to ask for directions, talk about time and weather, and order food, among other basic topics.
Method: 70-40% in English.

Intermediate Chinese

This level is designed for students who have successfully completed a two-year college course in speaking, writing, reading, and listening Chinese, or its equivalent. In this course, taught entirely / 90% in Mandarin Chinese, students will be required to comprehend and produce paragraph-level Chinese. Presentation in speaking, writing, listening and activities will be conducted in and off classroom.

Conducted entirely in Mandarin Chinese, this level is designed for students who have completed Intermediate Chinese or the equivalent. Students are introduced to the written Chinese (shumianyu) and taught how to make the transition from reading pedagogically prepared materials to more authentic materials. The complex communicative activities will be complemented. Students will also do intensive reading and writings on a variety of cultural topics.
