Introductory Spanish
The introductory level of our German program consists of four sections: SPA101, SPA102, SPA103, and SPA104. Each section lasts for a period of eight weeks. Students will have had 64 total hours of in-class instruction by the end of the four sections, preparing them for the intermediate level. It should take a student approximately 32 weeks to complete the entire introductory level of Spanish at JPLI.
This course aims to develop four essential language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a particular focus on communicative competence. Additionally, basic concepts of hispanic culture will be introduced. There are no prerequisites to enroll in this course. However, please note that this course is for students with little or no knowledge of Spanish, and therefore is not appropriate for native/fluent speakers of Spanish. Intermediate Spanish
Our Intermediate Spanish program is designed for learners who have attained a basic level of proficiency and now desire to advance to a more complex language level.
Like the introductory level of our Spanish course, the intermediate level comprises of four sections: SPA201, SPA202, SPA203, and SPA204. Each section lasts for a period of eight weeks. Students will have had at least 128 total hours of in-class instruction by the end of the four sections, preparing them for the advanced level. It should take a student at least 64 weeks to complete the intermediate level of Spanish at JPLI. Students must first complete the entire introductory track and/or demonstrate a medium level of proficiency in order to enroll in this level. JPLI may offer extra sections to students to better target their weaknesses and particular interests. Students will delve deeper into Spanish language and culture, with a focus on enhancing speaking, reading, and writing proficiency. They explore complex topics, engage in diverse language contexts, and analyze a wide range of texts from Latin America and Spain. The curriculum includes daily assignments, quizzes, and screenings of relevant video materials. Upon finishing each level of the course, students will have the opportunity to take the TFI™ Test for various purposes, thereby showcasing their language proficiency. Advanced Spanish
The curriculum for advanced Spanish (SPA301 and beyond) is adapted to the specific students' needs, interests, and abilities. Students must first complete the entire intermediate track and/or demonstrate a higher level of proficiency in order to enroll in this level.
