SPANISH LANGUAGE STUDY
Our Spanish program provides a comprehensive range of proficiency levels, including introductory, intermediate, and advanced, meticulously aligned with the standards established by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students may enroll in this course to earn academic credit and to enhance their career prospects.

PROGRAM SPECIALTIES
->>> Introductory Spanish
The Introductory Spanish program is divided into four sections (SPAN101, SPAN102, SPAN103, SPAN104), each of which lasts eight weeks with two-hour sessions every week.
The introductory curriculum focuses on essential conversational, listening, writing, and reading skills. Students will explore important topics such as greetings, personal introductions, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, shopping, directions, and medical assistance. Basic grammar, including verb conjugations, will be extensively covered. After completing all four sections, students will have developed a solid foundation in communication skills that can be used within a Spanish-speaking community. ->>> Intermediate Spanish
This course is open to students who have successfully completed the introductory 100-level courses or who have otherwise demonstrated a medium-level of proficiency in the language.
The intermediate course comprises four proficiency levels (SPAN201, SPAN202, SPAN203, SPAN204), each of which spans thirty-two weeks of study. In the intermediate program, students delve deeper into Spanish language and culture, with a focus on enhancing speaking, reading, and writing proficiency. They explore complex topics, engage in diverse language contexts, and analyze a wide range of texts from Latin America and Spain. The curriculum includes daily assignments, quizzes, and screenings of relevant video materials. Upon finishing each level of the course, students will have the opportunity to take the TFI™ Test for various purposes, thereby showcasing their language proficiency. The skills will be equivalent to B1/B2 of CEFR standard. Prerequisite(s) *Please note that a course placement interview is required for admission into the program. |
