Introductory Spanish

The Introductory Spanish program consists of four sections (SPAN101, SPAN102, SPAN103, SPAN104), each of which lasts eight weeks with two-hour sessions every week.

​The introductory curriculum focuses on essential conversational, listening, writing, and reading skills. Students will explore important topics such as greetings, personal introductions, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, shopping, directions, and medical assistance. Basic grammar, including verb conjugations, will be extensively covered.

After completing all four sections, students will have developed a solid foundation in communication skills that can be used within a Spanish-speaking community. In addition, their skills will be equivalent to Novice High level or A2B1 of CEFR's standard.

PROGRAM SPECIALTIES 

• Classes are typically limited to three to five students per instructor, allowing for greater in-person interaction and attention.
• Each section consists of eight two-hour sessions, held once or twice per week, and can be completed in either eight or four weeks. Upon completing the section, students can then enroll in the next level of that section.
• Classes are taught by qualified and experienced Spanish-speaking native or near-native instructors.
• Students who achieve a score of eighty-five or above may receive a certificate attesting to their proficiency in the language.
• The JPLI offers CEFR exam preparation courses to help students demonstrate mastery of various proficiency levels in Spanish.
• Tuition is priced at 629 dollars per every completed section of sixteen in-class hours. There is a one-time sixty-five dollar registration fee.
• The JPLI offers a three-percent tuition reward to students who score at least a ninety overall in their class, encouraging them to continue their language development.
• Student internships or work study programs are available to qualified students.​​
