Introductory Italian
The introductory level of our Italian program consists of four sections: ITA101, ITA102, ITA103, and ITA104. Each section lasts for a period of eight weeks. Students will have had 64 total hours of in-class instruction by the end of the four sections, preparing them for the intermediate level. It should take a student approximately 32 weeks to complete the entire introductory level of Italian at JPLI.
You will learn the four basic skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in the context of Italian culture. By the end of the course, you will be able to describe people, events and situations, in the present, past, and future tenses, and you will have acquired the necessary vocabulary to communicate about everyday situations. There are no prerequisites to enroll in this course. However, please note that this course is for students with little or no knowledge of Italian, and therefore is not appropriate for native/fluent speakers of Italian. More advanced students should reach out to our admissions office at (631) 888-3838 or [email protected]. |

Like the introductory level of our Italian course, the intermediate level comprises of four sections: ITA201, ITA202, ITA203, and ITA204. Each section lasts for a period of eight weeks. It should take a student at least 64 weeks to complete the intermediate level of Italian at JPLI. Students must first complete the entire introductory track and/or demonstrate a medium level of proficiency in order to enroll in this level. JPLI may offer extra sections to students to better target their weaknesses and particular interests. At this level, you will continue to enhance your Italian language skills, enrich your vocabulary and expand your conversational skills. You will learn how to have exchanges on a variety of topics, and continue your immersion in the Italian culture through unique videos and interviews. You will also become more confident as you continue practicing your reading and writing skills. Please note that a course placement interview is required for admission into the program. |
